Guitar Group Classes

Beginner Guitar Group  (BGG) – Age 6 and under

  • Students age 6 and under will spend 45 minutes once a week in a group setting with a parent.
  • The basics of building success on guitar will be taught at a beginner level and reinforced over the course of the sessions including posture, proper hand position, parts and care of the instrument.
  • Musical skills including note names, rhythms, high/low sounds, easy chords, strumming and singing will be explored together in a small group setting.
  • Emphasis on establishing a practicing routine during class and at home will prepare students for further guitar studies in Suzuki or traditional methods.
  • Parents will be expected to be present and involved – no previous experience is necessary.
  • This is a 12 week course running Tuesdays 4:15 – 5:00pm at our St John’s studios.
  • Maximum enrolment of 6 students
  • Classes will run from February to May (no classes during Feb and Easter breaks)

Ensemble Guitar Group  (EGG) – Age 7 and older

  • This group guitar class is available for students currently enrolled in private Suzuki guitar lessons.
  • Students age 7 and older will spend 45 minutes once a week in a group setting with a parent.
  • Emphasis will be on reinforcing all good musical habits as well as building ensemble skills.
  • Parents will be expected to be present and involved as part of the Suzuki Student-Teacher-Parent triangle.
  • This is a 12 week course running Tuesdays 6:45 – 7:30pm at our St John’s studios.
  • Maximum enrolment of 8 students.
  • Classes will run from February to May (no classes during Feb and Easter breaks)

All guitar group classes will be taught by Stephanie Unverricht.  Stephanie is a trained Suzuki guitar teacher and offers private and group lessons in Suzuki and traditional styles.  She is passionate about education and has maintained a private studio on various instruments for over 15 years.  She performs with the Saskatoon Symphony and Chamber Players as Principal Bassoon.  Please visit our website to view her full biography under the “instructors” tab.

To register for these classes please go to our registration page.  Select “Group Music Classes” and then enter either BGG or EGG for the class code.

April 7th – Spring Concert & Recital

Two Separate Events:

2:00pm – Spring Concert for Early Childhood classes:  This concert includes all students from our Parenting With Music and Music in Early Childhood classes.  Please purchase tickets from your teacher in the next few weeks:  $5 for each adult attending; children are free (cash preferred).  Proceeds will go toward our Student Bursary Fund which provides music tuition subsidy for lower income families.

3:15-4:15pm + 4:30-5:30pm – Private Instrumental Recitals:  Due to our high number of instrumental students in piano, guitar and violin, there will be 2 recital times instead of one long one.  Check with your instructor as to which time you are scheduled, 3:15 or 4:30. Please purchase tickets from your teacher in the coming weeks:  $5 per adult attending (cash preferred); children are free.  Proceeds will go toward our Student Bursary Fund which provides music tuition subsidy for low income families.

Wilton Academy is proud to be hosting another SSO Time for Toddlers event on Wednesday, October 24th at Albert Community Centre (610 Clarence Ave S).

Specifically designed for your mini-maestro, these parent and child experiences are perfect for your 2- to 4-year-old music lover.

Explore music through movement, song and dance with SSO musicians at the Wilton Academy of Music (Albert Community Centre, Room 21).   Let the music connect you and your child and send you both on a journey through melody, rhythm, colour and beautiful sound.
